Advisory Board
The purpose of the advisory board is to assess all discretionary expenses over $300 and decisions of the nonprofit and make sure they are in line with the mission and values of the nonprofit. The advisory board will be made up of the members of the executive board and any other members of the community who are active members, whose applications have been approved by the executive board, and who commit to the responsibilities of the advisory board. The advisory board will use the method of sociocracy in their proceedings.

Oversight and Responsibilties

Overseeing any permanent or semi-permanent building on community land

Decisions about events on community land

Residency proposals and overseeing of the accountability process on community land

Acceptance/removal of members

Conflict resolution/mediation within the community

Changes to community agreements, membership documents, or other important community documents
All decisions require 2/3 agreement of advisory board with a quorum. The executive board will then vote on each decision from the advisory board, requiring a ¾ agreement with quorum.
Process for Advisory Board Application

Step 1: Applicant fills out application form: https://forms.gle/3RtJTrjY4GZW7qev5

Step 2: Advisory board (once established; in the meantime, will be executive board) will review the proposal and either reject, approve, or suggest any changes to be made and send back to the applicant.

Step 3: Once approved, approval letter will be sent to applicant. Document must be signed and dated by both applicant and a board member (advisory or executive board) and provided to SLIC email within 10 days.
