Community Work Weekend Success!

Everyone,

I think we are going to stop calling our "work" weekends by that title because DAMN, though we did get sweaty and tired (and maybe a bit bloody), that was really just a whole lot of fun with 11 friends and 5 doggos.

I think I've done a poor job explaining what these weekends mean for us and the people who join, so I'm going to rectify that here.

We accomplished a lot, yes, including:

  • Finished a fence around 22 acres of land that will become an RV park!

  • Sandbagged the irrigation ditch!

  • Insulated, floored, and ceiling-d a shed that will soon be a one-bedroom solar-powered cabin on the community land!

  • Painted, organized, cleaned, and added flooring to a room in the current trailer that is acting as a community hub until we have funds to build a bigger structure on the community land!

But above and beyond accomplishing things, we also:

  • Ate really well (All homemade and shared meals, including meals made from the garden veggies)!

  • Roasted people for their birthday!

  • Cuddled doggies (of course)!

  • Worked as a community to brainstorm and solve "small" problems that would be easy problems to fix in the city (Ever heard of using incorrectly sized screws and duct tape to "secure" fan blades?)!

  • Played games!

  • Stargazed and cuddled under blankets while having amazing, genuine conversations!

  • Learned new skills!

It was everything I've ever envisioned for community, and I think you'll agree when you look at these pictures below. Thank you to everyone who joined and continues to support us in our mission!

Want to join us in our next community "work" weekend? It's scheduled for Oct 20 (evening) -Oct 22! October 20th during the day, a group will be climbing in Penitente. If you're interested in any of the above, please contact us by email or on our form!

Interested in donating to the nonprofit or getting a SLIC shirt and helping with fundraising? Interested in volunteering some other way? Every penny and every minute of volunteering helps us further towards our mission!

With love and joy,

Nikki @ Sustaining Life Intentional Communities
